Digital access is basically about the availability of technology and online resources (Digital citizenship, 2018).

Digital commerce is the purchasing and selling of goods electronically. The focal point is to ensure safe guards are in place to protect these buyers in the digital space (Digital citizenship, 2018).

2. Social capital is the networks of relationships among people who live and work in a particular society, enabling that society to function effectively. The end result of these relationships may provide meaningful information, fresh ideas and opportunities for the future. There are various ways a digital citizen can enhance its social capital. One is by networking proactively. Networking proactively provides an advantage by supporting you with a powerful collection of people who are willing and are able to speak for you on an ongoing basis. Being strategic is another. Strategic networking is more than socializing and swapping business cards, it’s about creating solid relationships to support your career aspirations. Create a diverse network. In order to network effectively, you need to move out of your comfort zone and identify people who can help your career, not just those people you like. Set a dedicated time each week to network. Keep in touch with former colleagues and alums. While it’s important to build a network of contacts, it’s equally important to nurture the relationships you have (Investopedia, 2019).

  2. I think digital footprints are positive and negative, depending on the way you aim to utilise the internet. It’s important to note that most people contribute to a growing portrait of who we are online, a portrait that is more public than most of us assume. So no matter what people do online it’s important that you know what kind of trail you are leaving, and what the other possible effects can be. Some people have a problematic digital footprint as they post inappropriate images or broadcast false information. Others use their digital footprints for creating positive content such as educating about the effects of taking drugs (Vivint.smarthome, 2016).

Ice task 2

Media fluency-ICE task 2

Message:

The Soho music video, directed by the artist himself (Jaden Smith) is a laid back trap-inspired outline of a failed relationship with his supermodel ex-girlfriend. While the tale simmers on a decidedly smooth beat, he voices out how he feels about the situation. Although the artist has endearing moments in this music video, Jaden smith is not striving for the meaning of life in this music video. The shallow song crumbles under his reckless control of words, failing to match the relaxed attributes of the song.

Verbalise:

What I see in the music video is an artist enjoying intimate moments with a girl that portrays his former girlfriend. I see the artist in a cosy setting, voicing out how he feels about her and the situation. We as the viewer’s get some insight into some of the things that they would do such as buying clothes at fancy stores and having picnics in a secret location called SOHO.

Verify:

The video is not appealing to all audiences therefore it is hard to differentiate between fact and opinion. The main purpose of this video is for entertainment purposes.

Medium:

The music video was distributed on all media platforms which makes it convenient for music followers. It was distributed on YouTube, MTV, iTunes and Spotify.

Form:

The design of the music video is perfect because the visuals are clear and relevant. There are no glitches in between and the quality of the video is at the highest level possible. The only obstruction would be the advertisements in between the music video.

Flow:

The visual effects are consistent in terms of the different scenarios that the viewers see. Every scene depicts the activities that they used to take part in.

Alignment:

I think the message, medium and flow is aligned perfectly because it is literally a series of events that the artist and his former girlfriend went through, making it a good story to tell.

ICE Task-19331522 (Kempton Park)

Divide in infrastructure:

The houses surrounding my area are not modern but are very olden and there are some informal structure/houses around. There is only one shopping mall that is close by and it is very basic. My area does not have any major hotels or guest houses.  There are a few government schools and there are zero private schools in this area.

Socio-economic divide:

The internet system around my area is not very great. Majority of the people that stay in this area do not have access to fibre cables for Wi-Fi. It is mostly people that stay in estates that have access to fibre cables and they often share the tower in order to get a better network connection. Ordinary people who don’t have access to Wi-Fi often struggle to get strong network connections.

Digital divide in content:

There is no library in my area so people are limited to using their phones in order to find information. Unlike suburban areas, few restaurants have wifi access so people are forced to go to internet cafes to browse the internet according to their preference.

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
